CALGARY VS. CAROLINA NHL PICKCalgary Flames vs. Carolina Hurricanes
NHL Pick: Carolina -170 odds (January 13th 2014)

The Carolina Hurricanes are 12th in the Eastern Conference, and currently not in line for a playoff spot. The good news is that they are just three points back of eight place Detroit, with a game in hand. The Canes have an opportunity to close the gap with a home game against Calgary tonight.

Here are my keys to the game:

1: Previous History – The home team is 7-1 in this series dating back to 2003. The Flames come into Carolina with just two wins in their last 10 games, while the Canes had won five straight before losing to Columbus on Friday.

2: Injuries – Carolina’s leading scorer Eric Staal has missed the last three games with a lower body injury, but has since returned to practice and says he’s feeling good. Don’t be surprised to see Staal back in the lineup tonight.

3: X-Factor – Anton Khudobin has come in and sparked a winning streak with solid play between the pipes for the Canes. He’s 6-1 with a 1.99 GAA since coming in to fill in for Cam Ward. He’ll face a Calgary offense that ranks near the bottom of the league averaging just 2.2 goals per game.
