The Avs come into Washington tonight as winners of five of their last six overall, and I like their chances of upsetting the Caps. They are riding a red hot goaltender in Semyon Varlamov, who has posted a 1.67 GAA during a three game winning streak.

Varlamov is now 6-2 with a 1.97 GAA since returning from a groin injury, and he owned the Caps last season, allowing just two goals on 75 shots, winning both meetings. In fact the Avs have taken four of their last five meetings versus Washington, with two of those four victories coming in the nation’s capital.

“Colorado is hitting their stride right now,” Washington coach Barry Trotz said. “They’ve got Varlamov playing at the top of his game and they’re sort of getting their game in order, being more of the team that you saw last year and playing very well.”
I tend to agree with coach Troz, and I think the price for tonight’s game doesn’t accurately reflect the value of a team that won 52 games last year finishing second in the West.
