Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -123
Look for NL Cy Young candidate Clayton Kershaw to bring the Giants’ 8-game win streak to an end tonight. Kershaw is 19-5 (21-10 on the ML) with an ERA of 2.30 on the season. He’s 11-1 (12-3 on the ML) with an ERA of 1.72 at home. He’s also 5-1 (7-3 on the ML) lifetime against the Giants with an ERA of 1.27. The Dodgers have won 5 of his last 6 starts against San Fran. The Giants, meanwhile, have lost 3 of Tim Lincecum’s 4 starts against the Dodgers this season. The Dodgers have won 13 of Kershaw’s last 16 starts overall. He’s allowed 2 earned runs or less 14 times during this span, including in 7 straight. We’ll take LA. -Jimmy Boyd

Pick: Florida Marlins -109
The Atlanta Braves seem to be falling apart at a less than opportune time. The Braves, who seemed to have the NL wild card all but secured with an 8 1/2-game lead Sept. 4, sit just 2 1/2 ahead of St. Louis following another disappointing defeat. Atlanta suffered its seventh loss in 10 games Monday, falling 6-5 as closer Craig Kimbrel surrendered a two-run, walk off homer to Omar Infante with two outs in the ninth. The Braves have dropped 10 of 12 on the road – including a season worst-tying four straight. After matching a career high with 11 strikeouts en route to throwing a one-hitter during a 3-0 victory at Pittsburgh on Sept. 10, Anibal Sanchez yielded two runs and four hits in six innings of a 3-1 loss at MLB-leading Philadelphia on Thursday. Sanchez is 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA in his last six starts, limiting opponents to a .199 average. The Marlins are 26-12 in Sanchez’s last 38 starts as a home favorite. The Braves are 0-5 in their last 5 games as a road underdog. Take Florida on the Money Line. -Black Widow (Handicapperspicks.com)

Pick: Colorado Rockies -128
I really like the Rockies to take down the Giants in the series opener tonight. The Rockies have won three of four and are in great shape to put an end to the Giants four game winning streak. Colorado is 14-9 at home against the Giants over the last three seasons and I believe they have a clear edge on the mound. The Rockies will start Jhoulys Chacin against Ryan Vogelsong. Both starters have pitched effectively this season and against the opposing team. However, this will be Vogelsong’s first start at Colorado. He has clearly been a better home pitcher this season. He has a 2.74 ERA on the season, but a 3.36 ERA on the road. He is also 0-3 with a 3.54 ERA in his last three starts. Chacin is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in four career starts against the Giants. Colorado is 7-1 in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, 6-1 in their last 7 home games vs. a right-handed starter, and 4-1 in Chacin’s last 5 starts vs. National League West. BET THE ROCKIES -Steve Janus

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays +100
For starters, Adrian Gonzalez is questionable and David Ortiz is doubtful for this game tonight as of this writing. Tampa Bay is 4 games behind Boston and this series is the best way for them to make up ground as they are running out of town. Boston is only 3-10 in all games this September. Tampa Bay has won 5 of their last 7 games overall. Boston has lost 6 of their last 7 games overall. Jeremy Hellickson has been solid all year. Hellickson is 12-10 with a 2.96 ERA overall this year, 6-5 with a 3.62 ERA on the road this season and has a 2.57 ERA his last 3 starts. Kyle Weiland is 0-1 with a 6.76 in games this year, 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in all starts and has a 13.50 ERA at home this season. Tampa Bay is 4-1 at Boston this year. We’ll recommend a small play on Tampa Bay tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky Atkinson

PIck: Florida Marlins +295
Anibal Sanchez has quietly put together a brilliant stretch, with a 0.86 ERA his last three starts fanning 21 in 21 innings. Sanchez tossed nine scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher Saturday against the Pirates. He allowed just one hit while walking three and striking out 11. Sanchez has not allowed an earned run over his last two starts (15 innings) and has 16 strikeouts over those starts. The win brings his record to 8-7 on the season to accompany a 3.64 ERA, 184 strikeouts and 56 walks. A great spot for the big dog with a red-hot, under the radar starter. Play the Marlins. -Jim Feist (Free MLB Baseball Picks)

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -111
On Friday the Free MLB Play is on the Tampa Bay Rays. Game 921 at 7:05 eastern. What we want to do in this game is play on road favorites off a home loss with a total that was 8 or less if they scored 4 or less runs and the opponent is also off a home loss. This system hits in the Mid 70% range. The Rays are 8-3 vs losing teams and have won 5 of 7 this season when the total is 8 to 8.5. Toronto is averaging 3 runs per game on .215 hitting in Division play. They have JJ. Reyes making the start and he has been awful so far this season with a 6.75 era allowing 12 runs in 13 innings with 22 hits and 7 walks. Tampa has Hellickson going tonight and he has a decent 3.38 road era. Look for Tampa to take game 1 of this series here tonight. On Friday I have the NBA E. conference Game of the Month from a big 98% Power system + 2 more NBA Best bets And a Big MLB Diamond Cutter System that wins by 5 runs per game. I also have a 91% MLB Totals system and a Road Warrior Dominator System. For the Free Play Take Tampa Bay tonight. -Rob Vinciletti

Pick: Colorado Rockies -110
The Colorado Rockies make the long trip to south Florida for a three-game weekend set against the host Marlins with Game 1 on Friday night and the first pitch set for 7:10PM EST. Currently Colorado is leading the way in the National League with a record of 13-5 on the season. The Rockies are coming off a 10 to 2 win on Wednesday over the champion San Francisco Giants with that win they were able to halt a possible sweep by the Giants as they lost the series 2-1. Colorado will send Jhoulys Chacin to the bump in hopes he can continue his hot streak having posted a 3-0 record this season with a 1.64 ERA. The Rockies have had no problem scoring runs when playing away from the Mile High City averaging 6.1 runs per game with an OBP of .354. The Marlins will send Anibal Sanchez to the hill with his 0-1 record in three outings to start the 2011 campaign. Sanchez is averaging just 5.4 innings per start with an ERA of 5.51 over that span. The Fish are averaging 4.6 runs per game at home with a .274 BA. Florida has struggled as a home underdog going 7-21 the last two seasons including 4-15 as a home underdog of +100 to +125. Colorado on the other hand has been a money making machine this season in this price range posting a record of 11-1 including 7-0 when playing away from home. With the better hurler on the bump and the support of some hot bats, we will call for a Colorado victory on Friday night. -Robbie Gainous (Handicapperspicks.com)

Washington Nationals vs. Florida Marlins Odds & Prediction: August 31st 2010

Our Tuesday night MLB predictions take us to Sun Life Stadium in beautiful Miami, Florida, where a pair of NL East dregs in the Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins partake in the second game of their current baseball betting series.

The Nationals powered their way to the 9-3 victory in last night’s series opener launching a pair of long balls and 11 overall hits. Jason Marquis secured his first victory of the season after tossing 5.2 innings of three-run ball, and the Nats now have a nice little three-game winning streak in the works after swiping a pair from the Redbirds.

Since letting go of clubhouse sparkplug Cody Ross, the Marlins have dropped four of seven and enter tonight’s contest losers of three in a row. The pitching staff has surrendered a whopping 28 runs during that stretch. Now playing with a rag tag lineup with just a few notables, the Fish have seemingly given up on the season.

Washington Nationals (57-75, -$493) vs. Florida Marlins (65-65, $123)
Game Date/Time: Tuesday, August 31st, 7:10 ET
Game Location: Citi Field, Flushing, NY
TV/Radio Broadcast: FOX – Florida, SNY, XM

MLB Odds: Washington Nationals +160 (Jordan Zimmerman – R) vs. Florida Marlins -190 (Anibal Sanchez- R): Total 8.5 O -115 8.5 U -105

Jordan Zimmerman’s first start since returning from Tommy John surgery hardly went as planned. The righty surrendered seven hits (1 HR) and five ER’s while K’ing four and walking one through just four total innings of work. He said he felt strong throughout the outing, but just left a few pitches up that St. Louis batters teed off on.

There are simply no trends backing the youngster in this spot! The Nationals have lost each of his L/6 road starts, and each of his L/5 when installed a road underdog. He did however pick up a no decision against the Marlins in his lone career start against them tossing six innings of two-run ball with a 6/1 K/BB ratio last season.

Opposing the flamethrowing righty will be Anibal Sanchez who sports the second best starting ERA on the team at 3.29. Florida’s won three of his L/4 MLB predictions outings which includes a shellacking of the Mets his last time out after limiting NY to four runs through five innings of the Marlins 11-4 road victory.

He’s been at his best at home where he sports a 4-3 record with a 2.69 ERA & 1.26 WHIP through 73.2 innings of work; Florida’s just 6-6 in his 12 starts in front of the home crowd. He earned a no decision and a win in a pair of outings against the Nats this season, and in his career, he’s a perfect 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts vs. Washington.

MLB Insider Tip: This line is simply absurd for a pair of teams going nowhere this season. Yes, Sanchez is yet to suffer a defeat against the Marlins throughout his career, but Florida’s a .500 team with him leading its charge at home and the Nats have been playing some decent ball of late.

Washington’s gotten the better of each of the L/4 right-handers its opposed, and the Marlins are just 1-4 the L/5 times they were favored and 0-fer in Sanchez’ L/4 Game 2 starts.

Washington knows exactly what to expect with Sanchez as it’s opposed him numerous times. That’s simply not the case with Zimmerman, so both MLB bettors and the Marlins don’t fully know what to expect tonight. With that being the main reason for tonight’s MLB predictions against the heavily favored Marlins, take a stab with the Nats as they simply don’t deserve to be dogs of this magnitude to the Fish at this point in the season!

My MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals (Zimmerman)
