NFL Prediction: 49ers vs. Cardinals Under 39.5
The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals are primed for a defensive battle Sunday. San Francisco already clinched the division, but they’ll be looking to get the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Arizona is trying to stay alive for a wild card spot while playing their best football of the season. The 49ers are 10-2 on the season. They have been winning behind one of the best defenses in the league, and a solid running game that controls the time of possession and keeps the chains moving. San Francisco ranks 4th in the NFL in total defense (303.4 yards/game), including 1st in run defense (71.8 yards/game). They are also 1st in scoring defense (13.4 points/game). San Francisco ranks 7th in rushing offense (130.0 yards/game). However, they are just 24th in total offense (315.3 yards/game) due to having the 28th-ranked passing offense (185.3 yards/game). They are barely outgaining opponents on the season because of this lackluster offense.

Arizona is 5-7 on the season, but they are 4-1 in their last 5 games thanks to big improvement defensively and a solid running game. The Cardinals have rushed for a combined 371 yards in their last two contests, but they will not have nearly as much success on the ground against this top-ranked 49er run defense. Arizona is only giving up 17.2 points/game in this five-game stretch.

The UNDER is 4-1 in the last five meetings in this series. The 49ers and Cardinals have combined to score 36 or less points in four of those contests. That includes a 23-7 home victory by the 49ers in their first meeting of the season on November 20th. San Francisco held Arizona to just 229 total yards in the win. Arizona is a perfect 6-0 to the UNDER after 1 or more consecutive wins against the spread this season. The UNDER is 6-1 in 49ers last 7 games overall. The UNDER is 8-2-1 in 49ers last 11 games as a road favorite, including 5-0 in their last 5 as a road favorite of 3.5-10.0. The UNDER is 10-3 in Cardinals last 13 vs. NFC West opponents. Bet the UNDER in this game Sunday. -Jack Jones

NFL Prediction: Detroit Lions -9.5
I question Minnesota’s motivation heading into this one. The Vikings are 2-10 on the season, going 0-4 SU & 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall to eliminate themselves from playoff contention. While there’s no guarantee the Vikings will even show up for this game, it’s certain that the Detroit Lions will be highly motivated. Detroit is 7-5 on the season, sitting in a three-way tie with the Bears and Falcons for the two NFC wild card spots. If the season were to end today, the Lions would be the last man out. This team has been in a tough stretch of their own, but they have simply beaten themselves. I still believe the Lions are one of the best teams in football, and they will take out their frustration on the lowly Vikings in this one. Minnesota is likely going to be without starting quarterback Christian Ponder (hip, doubtful), and they could be without Adrian Peterson (ankle, questionable) for a third straight game.

Detroit played right with Green Bay and New Orleans in their last two games, but they committed 11 penalties in each and cost themselves a chance to win. Detroit actually outgained both the Packers and Saints, and they have outgained each of their last five opponents. The focal point all week in practice will be to not beat themselves with stupid penalties, and I believe the Lions will play one of their cleanest games of the season Sunday, which will result in a double-digit blowout. Matthew Stafford is fifth in the league with 3,527 passing yards and fourth with 27 TD throws, and the Vikings have been vulnerable through the air with a depleted secondary. Minnesota is tied for 26th in the league in pass defense at 252.2 yards/game, also allowing an NFL-worst 24 passing touchdowns. Even if Peterson goes, he has rushed for a combined 109 yards in his last two games against Detroit. The Lions will be able to stack the line of scrimmage, making unproven backup quarterback Joe Webb try to beat them.

The Lions are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record, while the Vikings are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 vs. a team with a winning record. The Vikings are 0-9 SU & 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. NFC North foes. Take Detroit and lay the points. -Black Widow (Handicapperspicks.com)

Expert’s NFL Pick: Miami Dolphins -1.5
Buffalo shocked everyone by opening the season at 4-1, but they were playing above their ability level and have dropped to 5-4 after losing at Dallas, 44-7, last Sunday. The Bills have struggled on the road this season and Sunday’s loss moved them to 1-3 in true road games. Miami has finally entered the win column while winning back-to-back games by 28 and 11 points. Miami tries for their third straight victory this weekend and get home field advantage against a Division rival who’s defense has allowed 27 points or more in 5 of their 9 games. Buffalo was only 4-12 last season, and hasn’t won more than 7 games since 2004, so there’s no surprise that they can’t keep playing at this inflated level. -Carlo Campanella

Expert’s NFL Pick: Cardinals vs. 49ers Under 41
I don’t see these two teams going over the total set of 41.5. The 49ers come in allowing just over 15 points per game, but should be able to keep Arizona under that mark with the Cardinals starting John Skelton at quarterback. On the other side of the ball, I expect the 49ers to also struggle to move the ball. Arizona’s defense has really picked it up defensively in their last two games, holding St Louis to 13 points and Philadelphia to 17 points. The fact that this is a division game, only adds to the under being the play. These two teams are well aware of what the other team likes to do, and I expect both teams to play extremely hard. The 49ers want to make sure they don’t give anyone in the NFC West hopes of coming back, while the Cardinals will be playing with a lot of confidence riding a two game winning streak. The UNDER is 9-2 in Cardinals last 11 vs. NFC West and 4-1 in Cardinals last 5 road games. BET THE UNDER 41! -Steve Janus

Jimmy Boyd’s Sunday NFL Week 11 *SUPER SYSTEM SMOKER* Jimmy’s “Super System Smoker” plays have been deadly. With last Sunday’s 4-0 NFL SWEEP, which included an easy Super System Smoker winner on the Seahawks +7 (outright over Baltimore), these plays improved to a PERFECT 3-0 the last 3 Sunday’s! In Week 8, his SSS won on the Rams +14 (outright over New Orleans). In Week 9, his SSS cashed on the Dolphins +4.5 (outright over KC). Play by the numbers with Jimmy and bury another unsuspecting favorite behind a GAME-BREAKING 39-13 ATS SUPER SYSTEM that’s 3-1 ATS this season!

Expert’s NFL Pick: Carolina Panthers +7
Panthers (+) over Lions- Was he just a ‘Flash-in-the-pan?’ I am referring to Cam Newton of course who like Willie McCovey in 1959 going 4-4 with two triples and two doubles in his debut against the Philadelphia Phillies. Anyway, Detroit off their six turnover performance and total beat down by the Bears need to turn things around quick and the pressure is starting to build. Silly penalties and simple break downs are still holding Lions back. Panthers off worst game of the year with come to play Sunday. Take PANTHERS! -Chip Chirimbes (Handicapperspicks.com)

Oakland Raiders vs. Arizona Cardinals
Game Date/Time: Sunday, September 26th, 4:15 ET
Game Location: University of Phoenix Stadium, Phoenix, AZ
TV/Radio Broadcast: CBS, Westwood One, Sirius

NFL Odds: Oakland Raiders (+4.5) -110 vs. Arizona Cardinals (-4.5) -110: Over/Under 39.5

This is a great spot to be snaring the Raiders this week. Tom Cable’s club fought valiantly to capture the outright win against the St. Louis Rams last week, and we can’t help but wonder if that was the first step towards putting these guys back on the map. The Cards were trounced last week against the Atlanta Falcons, and though they aren’t nearly that bad and are a significantly better club at home, they aren’t beating anyone by more than two TDs on a regular basis in NFL betting action this season.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Game Date/Time: Sunday, September 26th, 1:00 ET
Game Location: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, FL
TV/Radio Broadcast: CBS, Westwood One, Sirius

NFL Odds: Pittsburgh Steelers (-1.5) -110 vs. Cleveland Browns (+1.5) -110: Over/Under 33.5

Either side of this game would probably work considering how low the ‘total’ is, but there is a significantly better chance of the Steelers blowing out the Bucs than vice versa. Pittsburgh has just played too well defensively. We aren’t so sure that Tampa Bay is going to be able to figure out how to score nine points let alone win by that many. This is a prototypical spot where we just bank on the black and gold ‘D’ to carry us to an NFL betting victory whether a ‘W’ is in the cards for the Steelers or not.

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins
Game Date/Time: Sunday, September 26th, 8:20 ET
Game Location: Sun Life Stadium, Miami, FL
TV/Radio Broadcast: NBC, Westwood One, Sirius

NFL Odds: New York Jets (+1.5) -110 vs. Miami Dolphins (-1.5) -110: Over/Under 35.5

Here we are again with another game where we pit a dominating defense against a questionable offense, and our NFL betting instincts tell us that the Jets should easily be able to, if nothing else, stick within double digits in this game. The play of Mark Sanchez has been acceptable this year, and that’s all that he has to be in this game for us to stick in front of this number: acceptable. If the “Sanchise” doesn’t throw multiple picks and the special teams doesn’t totally fail, we just don’t see a way that Miami is scoring enough with an offense that is strictly based on its ground game to be able to cover this type of a number.

My Week 3 NFL Teaser Pick: 10-point super teaser – Oakland Raiders +14.5/Pittsburgh Steelers +8.5/New York Jets +11.5

Week 4 NFL Preseason Predictions: Redskins vs. Cardinals Odds: September 2nd 2010

Thursday night will be the final chance to sink your teeth into football game lines for the NFL preseason! The duel in the desert will be a very interesting one to watch, as plenty of quarterbacks will be fighting for jobs in the clash between the Washington Redskins and the Arizona Cardinals.

Washington Redskins vs. Arizona Cardinals
Game Date/Time: Thursday, September 2nd, 10:00 ET
Game Location: University of Phoenix Stadium, Phoenix, AZ
TV/Radio Broadcast: Local TV, NFL Network, Westwood One, Sirius

NFL Odds: Washington Redskins (+5.5) -110 vs. Arizona Cardinals (-5.5) -110: Over/Under 37

Thanks to injuries to both Donovan McNabb and Rex Grossman, the only two quarterbacks that are probably going to suit it up for the Redskins on Thursday night are John Beck and Richard Bartel.

Let’s remember that Beck was competing to be the starting QB for the Miami Dolphins as recently as two years ago, so he clearly has some skills. Beck is only completing 50.0 percent of his passes for 103 yards in the preseason.

Bartel came on last week and threw for 44 yards and a TD in his debut in ’09 for the Redskins.

Washington has made it to 2-1 on the preseason thanks to the fact that its defense has been fantastic at times. Allowing a total of just 51 points in three games ranks Washington Redskins at 12th in the league in scoring.

On the other side of the field, the Cardinals are clearly in some disarray. Though it is unknown whether either Derek Anderson or Matt Leinart is going to play in this game, it is clear that Anderson is playing in Week 1, while Leinart, barring injury, will not. Ken Whisenhunt announced on Wednesday that the former Cleveland Browns starter is his man for the beginning of the season, which has really thrown the entire team for a whirl. Leinart, once upon a time considered the future of the franchise, is reportedly on the trade block.

Beck’s successor at BYU, Max Hall should be used quite a bit for the Cards on Thursday night. Both he and fellow rookie John Skelton have looked good in the preseason, and both are going to be fighting for what could be just one roster spot should Leinart not get moved by the start of the year.

NFL Insider Tip : The Redskins are unbeaten in their L/5 road games dating back to last season, going 4-0-1 against the football game lines.

Are Beck and Bartel the second coming of Joe Theismann and Mark Rypien? Of course not. However, they are both probably going to find a way to play inspired football once again. There is a lot of controversy right now in Arizona Cardinals, and we don’t love the idea of laying six points in the preseason with a team that doesn’t have a fantastic direction of where it is going.

The ‘Skins should top the Cards on the football game lines on Thursday.

My NFL Predictions: Washington Redskins (+5.5) -110
