AFL Betting: Arizona Rattlers vs. Spokane Shock Outlook: August 6th 2010

August 6th, 2010

The 2010 AFL Playoff betting Divisional Round continues Friday Night August 6th at 10:30 ET when the feisty Arizona Rattlers (10-6, 10-5-1 ATS) slither into the Spokane Veterans memorial Arena to take on the Spokane Shock (13-3, 9-7 ATS). Both clubs closed out their regular season campaigns on the wrong end of the scoreboard. The Rattlers felt the wrath of the Iowa Barnstormers 67-47 as 10.5-point calk, while the Shock lost to Jacksonville 64-49 as 6.5-point underdogs. The defeat ended their 11-game winning streak, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter because the Shock already earned the right to host every game including the ArenaBowl if indeed they qualify.

The Rattlers finished up the regular season with a 10-6 SU mark and made AFL bettors happy churning out a 10-5-1 ATS mark. They went 5-3 in their eight road games and put forth a sparkling 7-1 ATS record. On the offensive side of the ball, the Rattlers scored an average of 59.8 PPG and gained an average of 323.8 YPG, while the defense gave up 55.3 PPG and only allowed 275.1 YPG. QB Nick Davila was the leader of the Rattlers offensive attack throwing for 4,858 yards to go along with a 102/17 TD/INT ratio.

The Shock has been the best team in AFL all season (13-3, 9-7 ATS) long. After splitting their first four games of the season, HC Rob Keefe’s club rattled off 11 wins in a row before falling last week in Jacksonville. They were great at home winning six of their eight games overall while recording a 5-3 ATS mark. They are the best team coming out of the National Conference regular season, and start the playoffs as the overall #1 seed. QB Kyle Rowley lit up opponents all season compiling an astounding 4,475 yards through the air to go with an amazing TD/INT ratio of 102/11.

In the two previous AFL betting match-ups of these west division rivals this season, the Shock claimed a sweep. The first meeting was held in Arizona where the Shock came away with a 63-56 win as 1.5-point underdogs, and they took the second game in Spokane 37-36 as 7-point favorites; much to the dismay of their AFL betting backers.

The Shock currently sit as 7-point home favorites with a game ‘total’ set at 112 for tonight’s AFL betting battle.

The AFL betting season enters its fifteenth week of play this week with a full slate of games. Check out how we’re ranking the clubs through the first 14 weeks of the season!

1: Spokane Shock (10-2 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 1) – The Shock laid the smack down on Arizona last week, which effectively clinched up the #1 seed in the National Conference barring a major slip up. It was a shame to not cover the spread after holding the Rats to just 36 points, but the backdoor was wide open in the closing moments.
Up Next: Away @ Cleveland

2: Tampa Bay Storm (9-3 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 4) – The Storm have hit their highest point in the AFL betting power poll all season long, and they are on the verge of locking down a playoff spot. The key game is going to be in two weeks in Jacksonville, so a letdown in Dallas is something that must be avoided, particularly after the huge ‘W’ over Chicago last week.
Up Next: Away @ Dallas

3: Chicago Rush (9-4 SU, 7-5-1 ATS) (LW: 3) – What a miserable week for the Rush! Spokane won, Milwaukee won, they lost, and their fullback, Robert Boss left the team to become an assistant coach for an FCS school. The initiative in the division can be lost this week if Chicago isn’t careful, which could send it on the road for the postseason.
Up Next: Home vs. Arizona

4: Arizona Rattlers (8-4 SU, 8-4 ATS) (LW: 2) – The Rattlers aren’t in any sort of playoff trouble at this point, but the loss at Spokane ended any hope of winning the West and earning a home playoff game. This should be a playoff preview this week, as we expect to see Arizona and Chicago duking it out in the Windy City again in a few weeks.
Up Next: Away @ Chicago

5: Jacksonville Sharks (8-4 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 5) – The Sharks got back on the boat by crushing Alabama last week. A de facto bye week is ahead before the big one at home against Tampa Bay that will probably determine the winner of the South.
Up Next: Away @ Utah

6: Milwaukee Iron (8-5 SU, 7-6 ATS) (LW: 6) – Ho hum – 82 more points on the board this week for the Iron. Milwaukee knows that two more wins will lock down a playoff berth regardless of who they come against. It will enjoy its final bye this week.
Up Next: Bye

And the rest…
7: Tulsa Talons (7-5 SU, 8-4 ATS) (LW: 8 )
8: Iowa Barnstormers (6-6 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 10)
9: Cleveland Gladiators (6-7 SU, 8-5 ATS) (LW: 11)
10: Alabama Vipers (6-6 SU, 5-7 ATS) (LW: 7)
11: Orlando Predators (5-7 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 9)
12: Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (5-7 SU, 7-5 ATS) (LW: 12)
13: Bossier City Battle Wings (3-10 SU, 6-7 ATS) (LW: 13)
14: Dallas Vigilantes (1-11 SU, 3-9 ATS) (LW: 14)
15: Utah Blaze (1-11 SU, 2-10 ATS) (LW: 15)

The AFL betting season enters its fourteenth week of play this week with a full slate of games. Check out how we’re ranking the clubs through the first 13 weeks of the season!

1: Spokane Shock (9-2 SU, 6-5 ATS) (LW: 1) – There is really no doubt at this point that the road to the ArenaBowl is going to go through Spokane as long as the Shock don’t trip up this week. They now hold the tiebreaker and two games on Milwaukee after posting an impressive two TD win on the road last week.
Up Next: Home vs. Arizona

2: Arizona Rattlers (8-3 SU, 7-4 ATS) (LW: 2) – Don’t count the Rats out of everything just yet! It will be a huge sin to see either Arizona or Spokane have to go on the road in the first round of the playoffs, but the loser of this upcoming game, particularly if it is Arizona, is in huge trouble.
Up Next: Away @ Spokane

3: Chicago Rush (9-3 SU, 7-4-1 ATS) (LW: 4) – The Rush are rolling right now, and the Midwest Division title is in sight. The NFL Network will be broadcasting this week’s clash in Tampa Bay, which could be the defining moment of the season for the boys from the Windy City after demolishing Orlando in Week 13.
Up Next: Away @ Tampa Bay

4: Tampa Bay Storm (8-3 SU, 5-6 ATS) (LW: 5) – After beating up on a hapless Bossier team last week for the biggest home win in franchise history, the Storm are going to look to keep their six game winning streak alive when the Rush come to the St. Pete Times Forum. Expect HC Tim Marcum to have his team fired up, as this is the last home game for the squad until the end of July.
Up Next: Home vs. Chicago

5: Jacksonville Sharks (7-4 SU, 5-6 ATS) (LW: 3) – The mojo that the Sharks had a few weeks ago appears to have disappeared. This is the first time that they have been trailing in the South in months, and the real danger is there to fall out of the playoffs with more losses, especially if one of those defeats comes this week against another divisional foe.
Up Next: Home vs. Alabama

6: Milwaukee Iron (7-5 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 6) – If either Iowa or Cleveland can get its act together, the Iron may find themselves in a boat load of trouble down the stretch. The good news is that the team is basically on a bye week this week, but the bad news is that opposing teams are starting to breathe down Milwaukee’s neck for that last playoff spot.
Up Next: Away @ Utah

And the rest…
7: Alabama Vipers (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS) (LW: 8 )
8: Tulsa Talons (7-5 SU, 8-4 ATS) (LW: 9)
9: Orlando Predators (5-6 SU, 6-5 ATS) (LW: 7)
10: Iowa Barnstormers (5-6 SU, 5-6 ATS) (LW: 11)
11: Cleveland Gladiators (5-7 SU, 7-5 ATS) (LW: 10)
12: Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-7 SU, 6-5 ATS) (LW: 12)
13: Bossier City Battle Wings (3-9 SU, 6-6 ATS) (LW: 13)
14: Dallas Vigilantes (1-10 SU, 3-8 ATS) (LW: 14)
15: Utah Blaze (1-10 SU, 2-9 ATS) (LW: 15)

Week 13 Arena Football League Power Poll – June 23rd 2010

The AFL betting season enters its thirteenth week of play this week with a full slate of games. Check out how we’re ranking the clubs through the first 12 weeks of the season!

1: Spokane Shock (8-2 SU, 5-5 ATS) (LW: 2) – At this point, it is absolutely undeniable that the Shock are the top rated team in the AFL. They absolutely steamrolled past Tulsa 63-42 in Week 12, which sets up a fantastic duel with the Iron at the Bradley Center this coming Saturday.
Up Next: Away @ Milwaukee

2: Arizona Rattlers (7-3 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 4) – The Rattlers have done nothing but move up the charts in recent weeks thanks to this three game home stand that has done wonders for the club. Still, AFL betting fans need to be weary of this schedule. Starting this week, the stakes go tremendously up, as games at Jacksonville and Spokane are on deck.
Up Next: Away @ Jacksonville

3: Jacksonville Sharks (7-3 SU, 5-5 ATS) (LW: 1) – Shame on you, Jacksonville! The Sharks were down 22-2 before you could blink in the first quarter against an Orlando team that has been up and down all season long. This was perhaps a curse of coming off of the bye week, which has bitten three straight teams in the backside with ATS defeats.
Up Next: Home vs. Arizona

4: Chicago Rush (8-3 SU, 6-4-1 ATS) (LW: 5) – The AFL odds were stacked against Chicago all week last week. Not only were QB Russ Michna and WR Samie Parker not with the team because of their UFL tryout, but they watched as they went from two point favorites all the way up to nearly double digit underdogs! Needless to say, a 63-56 win over the Iron not only helped defy the odds, but it also moved the magic number to clinch its division to just four.
Up Next: Home vs. Orlando

5: Tampa Bay Storm (7-3 SU, 4-6 ATS) (LW: 6) – It was rough for just a bit, but the Storm did their job and disposed of Utah without much trouble. Tampa Bay is back at home this week, where it has played well all season long. HC Tim Marcum definitely has himself a contender this year.
Up Next: Home vs. Bossier City

6: Milwaukee Iron (7-4 SU, 6-5 ATS) (LW: 3) – Milwaukee has to be wondering whether there are some serious problems right now. The team has now lost twice this year after double digit point spread moves, which has crippled AFL betting fans. The Midwest Division has basically already been lost barring a collapse by the Rush, and if they’re not careful, the Iron will fall out of the playoffs entirely as well.
Up Next: Home vs. Spokane

And the rest…
7: Orlando Predators (5-5 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 9)
8: Alabama Vipers (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS) (LW: 8 )
9: Tulsa Talons (6-5 SU, 7-4 ATS) (LW: 7)
10: Cleveland Gladiators (5-6 SU, 7-4 ATS) (LW: 11)
11: Iowa Barnstormers (4-6 SU, 4-6 ATS) (LW: 10)
12: Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (3-7 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 12)
13: Bossier City Battle Wings (3-8 SU, 6-5 ATS) (LW: 13)
14: Dallas Vigilantes (1-9 SU, 2-8 ATS) (LW: 14)
15: Utah Blaze (1-9 SU, 2-8 ATS) (LW: 15)

Week 12 Arena Football League Power Poll – June 16th 2010

The AFL betting season enters its twelfth week of play this week with a full slate of games. Check out how we’re ranking the clubs through the first 11 weeks of the season!

1: Jacksonville Sharks (7-2 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 1) – Even though the Sharks did go up to Spokane and lose a few weeks ago, we tend to believe that they have the best overall resume of any team in the AFL to date. After a week off, a trip to the Jungle could be difficult. It’ll mark the return of HC Les Moss to the city that he coached in for almost two decades.
Up Next: Away @ Orlando

2: Spokane Shock (7-2 SU, 4-5 ATS) (LW: 2) – Spokane needed some magic at the end of their AFL betting affair with the Predators on Saturday, but they walked out of Orlando with a victory to tie Jacksonville for the best record in the league. QB Kyle Rowley chucked three picks though, and he’ll need to improve upon that if the Shock is to avoid getting bounced this week.
Up Next: Home vs. Tulsa

3: Milwaukee Iron (7-3 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 4) – A dominant second half performance against the Gladiators moves Milwaukee up a slot in this week’s AFL Power Poll. The 82 points scored was the second highest point total of the season. A win in the Windy City this week could effectively lock up the Midwest Division.
Up Next: Away @ Chicago

4: Arizona Rattlers (6-3 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 3) – Shame on the Rattlers for needing to stop a two point conversion against Oklahoma City to pick up a home victory on Friday night. The fun and games are almost over for Arizona, but another win should be in the cards this week.
Up Next: Home vs. Bossier City

5: Chicago Rush (7-3 SU, 5-4-1 ATS) (LW: 5) – With almost an entire new receiving corps, QB Rush Michna still had a fantastic game, going 16/19 for 217 yards and six scores against the lowly Blaze on Saturday night. This was merely a tune up for this week’s rematch against the Iron in which revenge will clearly be on the minds of the members of the Rush.
Up Next: Home vs. Milwaukee

6: Tampa Bay Storm (6-3 SU, 3-6 ATS) (LW: 6) – Between the win at Alabama and Orlando’s loss to Spokane, the Storm were arguably the biggest winners in the 11th week of AFL betting action. For the third straight game, Tampa Bay had to hold on for dear life at the death, but HC Tim Marcum will take wins any way he can get them.
Up Next: Away @ Utah

And the rest…
7: Tulsa Talons (6-4 SU, 7-3 ATS) (LW: 9)
8: Alabama Vipers (5-5 SU, 5-5 ATS) (LW: 8 )
9: Orlando Predators (4-5 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 7)
10: Iowa Barnstormers (4-5 SU, 4-5 ATS) (LW: 11)
11: Cleveland Gladiators (4-6 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 10)
12: Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (3-7 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 12)
13: Bossier City Battle Wings (3-7 SU, 6-4 ATS) (LW: 13)
14: Dallas Vigilantes (1-8 SU, 1-8 ATS) (LW: 14)
15: Utah Blaze (1-8 SU, 2-7 ATS) (LW: 15)

Week 11 Arena Football League Power Poll – June 8th 2010

The AFL betting season enters its eleventh week of play this week with a full slate of games. Check out how we’re ranking the clubs through the first ten weeks of the season!

1: Jacksonville Sharks (7-2 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 3) – There were four 6-2 teams coming into Week 10. Only one lived to make it to 7-2, and that was Jacksonville. The Sharks were probably the least likely club to pull off the feat as well, as the upset in Chicago was a huge one. QB Aaron Garcia became the all-time leader in the AFL in passing touchdowns in the victory in the Windy City.
Up Next: Bye

2: Spokane Shock (6-2 SU, 4-4 ATS) (LW: 2) – The Shock remain in the stalking position in the AFL Power Poll after their bye week. The suddenly surging Predators are on deck, which could set up a big time battle in the Sunshine State.
Up Next: Away @ Orlando

3: Arizona Rattlers (5-3 SU, 5-3 ATS) (LW: 6) – Arizona is now on a three game winning streak that could easily push to five games over these next two weeks. The Rats took a narrow OT win against the Iron last week, but will get a chance to settle down over these next two weeks with cupcakes. They’d better be ready for the end of June and beginning of July though, as in three consecutive weeks, they travel to Jacksonville, Spokane, and Chicago.
Up Next: Home vs. Oklahoma City

4: Milwaukee Iron (6-3 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 1) – Milwaukee tried its best to steal a win in the desert on Saturday night, but when the dust settled, it was Arizona that stayed hot. The Iron is still getting great offensive play, but the defense is still letting the team down too frequently, particularly on the road. Through the end of the month, this team could easily drop to 6-6 or be 9-3.
Up Next: Home vs. Cleveland

5: Chicago Rush (6-3 SU, 4-4-1 ATS) (LW: 4) – The Rush are in dire need of wide receivers, HC Mike Hohensee was quoted on the NFL Network Game of the Week last week as saying that he just doesn’t have enough bodies to play in a game. WR Samie Parker becoming an Oakland Raider didn’t help matters any either.
Up Next: Away @ Utah

6: Tampa Bay Storm (5-3 SU, 2-6 ATS) (LW: 5) – The Storm might have won last week at home against Oklahoma City, but it certainly wasn’t a thing of beauty. Tampa Bay needed a late rally to topple a team that has been awful for a good chunk of the year, especially on the road, and HC Tim Marcum can’t be thrilled with the way that his team looked in victory #203 of his career.
Up Next: Away @ Alabama

And the rest…
7: Orlando Predators (4-4 SU, 4-4 ATS) (LW: 10)
8: Alabama Vipers (5-4 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 8 )
9: Tulsa Talons (5-4 SU, 6-3 ATS) (LW: 7)
10: Cleveland Gladiators (4-5 SU, 6-3 ATS) (LW: 11)
11: Iowa Barnstormers (3-5 SU, 3-5 ATS) (LW: 9)
12: Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (3-6 SU, 5-4 ATS) (LW: 12)
13: Bossier City Battle Wings (3-6 SU, 6-3 ATS) (LW: 13)
14: Dallas Vigilantes (1-7 SU, 1-7 ATS) (LW: 14)
15: Utah Blaze (1-7 SU, 2-6 ATS) (LW: 15)
