Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Louisville Cardinals Pick: October 15th 2010

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Louisville Cardinals
Pick: Louisville Cardinals +3

The Cincinnati Bearcats were ranked to start the season, but have played nothing like a ranked team. It’s obviously they were vastly overrated coming into the season. They beat up on Indiana State (missing the cover as a 45-point favorite). The Bearcats also delivered a blowout to Miami, Ohio. But they could not find the win column in their other three games. Louisville has been better than advertised this season. They lost the two games they were supposed to lose, but were in both of them. They went on the road vs. Oregon State as a three touchdown underdog but lost by just 7 points. They outgained the Beafers in that game by 134 yards, done in by a -2 turnover margin. Theh have great balance with Adam Froman throwing for 1,177 yards at 8.5 yards per pass, and running behind Bilal Powell who already has churned out 689 yards at 7.6 yards a carry and 7 TDs. The Bearcats haven’t been covering much of anything of late at just 2-8 ATS in their last 10. The Cards’ success running the ball has bred even more success as they are 23-10 ATS after running for over 200 yards in their last game. Cincinnati is 0-2 SU and ATS on the road and they are facing a Louisville team that has shown they can play. I like the home dog here. -Wunderdog

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. NC State Wolfpack Odds & Pick: September 16th 2010

The NC State Wolfpack open their FBS schedule at home against the Big East representative Cincinnati Bearcats. This will be the first ever bet on football tussle between these two programs.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. NC State Wolfpack
Game Date/Time: Thursday, September 16th, 7:30 ET
Game Location: Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC
TV/Radio Broadcast: ESPN, XM

NCAA Football Odds: Cincinnati Bearcats (+2) -110 vs. NC State Wolfpack (-2) -110: Over/Under 54

Butch Jones secured his first victory as Bearcats head coach last week against FCS rep Indiana State. While it did manage to cover the 27-point closing spread, it wasn’t until the second half that the team was readily able to pull away.

In just two games played thus far, it certainly looks as if the absence of Brian Kelly on the Bearcat’s sideline has taken a toll; especially with the QB play.

Zach Collaros filled in admirably last season for the injured Tony Pike on a couple of occasions. However, after bolting the Bearcats out to a 14-0 lead in Silicon Valley against the Bulldogs back in Week 1, the junior signal caller’s confidence pretty much vanished after Fresno State adjusted to what they were doing. His lack of leadership will be tested mightily in tonight’s hostile environment.

Though he gained some much needed confidence against the Sycamores (11/17 for 130 yards and 2 TDs), he now has to go up against a Jon Tenuta schemed attack unit in tonight’s bet on football battle with the Wolfpack. That doesn’t bode well for him considering Cincinnati’s young O-Line is giving up an average of five sacks per game, and they’ve only partaken in two games to date. Collaros will be forced to use his legs more often than he’d like in this spot.

The Wolfpack benefitted from a huge injury to Central Florida RB Brynn Harvey last week. However, they had to deal with mobile QB Jeffrey Godfrey who rushed for 53 yards and two TDs on 10 attempts. While he terrorized NCST’s stop unit and made it look bad, I believe the defensive staff will have used his exploits as a learning experience in practice all week. In other words, the Wolfpack should be better prepared to deal with a scrambling QB tonight.

NCST quarterback Russell Wilson had a terrible outing vs. the Golden Knights completing just 10-of-30 passes for 105 yards and a score. That said, we’ve already seen what this experienced field general can do throughout his previous two years at the helm, and the Bearcats porous pass “D” might be exactly what he needs to get back on track.

Cincy allowed Fresno State QB Ryan Colburn to throw for 247 yards and four TDs in their Week 1 meeting. Needless to say, but Wilson should find his receiving corps readily open throughout the entirety of tonight’s game – look for him to take advantage.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: The ACC experienced one of the worst weeks ever in the history of the conference last week with VTECH falling at home to James Madison and GTECH falling in Lawrence to a KU squad that fell to a FCS opponent the week before.

College Football Betting: The Best And Worst Of The Big East: September 15th 2010

As we prepare for another great week of action on the gridiron, we take a look at how the teams in the Big East are faring thus far over the course of the year. We’re running with the Bulls atop the Big East College football betting poll this week at BetUS Sportsbook.
CLICK HERE FOR MIKE ROSE’ EXPERT NCAA FOOTBALL PICKS

1: South Florida Bulls (1-1 ATS, 1-1 SU) – No one in this conference is perfect ATS, but at least the Bulls are close. The Skip Holtz era has started off well, as USF has a dominating win over Stony Brook and a respectable loss in the Swamp against the Gators that was a heck of a lot closer than the final score indicates.

2: Connecticut Huskies (1-1 ATS, 1-1 SU) – Getting destroyed in the Big House didn’t set the Huskies back too far in football betting action. Opening up a massive can on Morgan State will help soothe the pains. A trip to the City of Brotherly Love this week could prove treacherous, as Temple is for real.

3: Syracuse Orange (1-1 ATS, 1-1 SU) – What’s the key to getting the Orange a cover? Play a team like Akron which barely deserves to keep its FBS status! Want proof of just how bad Syracuse is right now? They failed to cover a near two TD spread at U-Dub who went into the game 1-9 ATS the L/10 times it was favored at home.

4: Pittsburgh Panthers (0-1-1 ATS, 1-1 SU) – Better times will come for the Panthers one of these days, but that loss in OT to Utah is going to sting for awhile. The ‘Stache still has something special in Dion Lewis.

5: Cincinnati Bearcats (0-2 ATS, 1-1 SU) – Taking care of Indiana State 40-7 was a lot more costly for the Bearcats than just another loss against the football betting lines; Vidal Hazelton has been lost for the season. The Butch Jones era has gotten off to a rocky start

6: Rutgers Scarlet Knights (0-2 ATS, 2-0 SU) – One of the few teams in the nation that is 2-0 SU but just 0-2 ATS, Rutgers has played some dominating ‘D’ this year… But what gives with the 50 points scored in two games against two duds?

7: West Virginia Mountaineers (0-2 ATS, 2-0 SU) – If the Mountaineers are going to challenge for the 2010 Big East title, they need to prove they can beat teams like Marshall without the use of overtime. Geno Smith needs some work, but Noel Devine is still absolutely the real deal.

8: Louisville Cardinals (0-2 ATS, 1-1 SU) – The Cards might have lost the battle of the state of Kentucky, but they did pick up the first win of the Charlie Strong era last week in relatively tenuous fashion over Eastern Kentucky. Good luck this week in Corvallis, Louisville – You’re gonna need it!
