Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +123
I feel that we’re getting solid value with the home underdog Pirates here. Lincoln is 1-2 his last three starts. However, he’s got a stellar 2.50 ERA over those three starts, averaging six complete innings. On the other hand, Lohse is 2-1 but has an ugly 6.43 ERA his last three starts, averaging less than five innings in those games. Lohse is 2-1 with a solid 3.75 ERA vs. the Pirates this season. However, Lincoln is 1-0 with a superb 1.13 ERA in two starts vs. the Cards this season. While they’re below .500, the Pirates have had a somewhat respectable season. They’d love to help ensure that the Cards don’t make the playoffs. Consider Pittsburgh. -Ben Burns

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -125
Tampa Bay has won 4 in a row and 7 of their last 8 games overall putting them only 3 1/2 games behind Boston in the AL East. Tampa Bay is 45-21 this year when playing against a team with a losing record. Baltimore is 22-56 this year when playing against a team with a winning record. Tampa Bay sends Jeff Niemann to the mound where he has been good on the road with a 6-2 record and a 3.36 ERA this season. Tampa Bay is 5-1 this year when playing at Baltimore. We’ll recommend a small play on Tampa Bay tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky Atkinson (Handicapperspicks.com)

Pick: Minnesota Twins -131
Twins -130 over Tigers- Detroit has moved into position to challenge Cleveland and they were 10-1 in their last 11 meetings against Minnesota. Unfortunately for them Brad Penny gets the start this afternoon and he is the Tigers weak link in their rotation. The Tigers have struggled of late as underdogs winning only 2 of their last nine and the Twins are 18-7 in their last 25 at home. Take MINNESOTA! -Chip Chirimbes

Pick: Chicago White Sox -102
The White Sox have an excellent chance to win the Central because of their pitching, which is precisely what I expect to carry them to victory today. Jackson enters with tons of confidence after tossing a complete game shutout against Detroit in his last start. It’s not as if he needed any added confidence against the Indians, a team he is 8-1 lifetime against with an ERA of 2.80. The White Sox are 9-3 in Jackson’s last 12 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance. Huff has only made 1 start for the Tribe this season, and I don’t expect it to go as well as the first. He has an 8.04 lifetime ERA in 3 starts against Chicago, and the Indians are just 1-6 in his last 7 starts. The White Sox have won 7 of the last 8 meetings in this series overall and 7 of the last 8 in Cleveland. We’ll take the Sox. -Jimmy Boyd

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -105
Talk about hard luck, RHP Jeff Niemann (4-4, 3.94) of Tampa Bay throw between the white line this evening off an 8 inning, 2-hitter, while losing to 1-0 to the Red Sox in the Sunshine State. Prior to that loss the Rays had won 4 straight starts with Niemann. Life time Niemann is 3-0 (0.71) with a 0.55 WHIP. The Rays are 13 of 18 in the series and 5 of 7 in Kansas City. Kansas City counters with lefty Jeff Francis, but the club has lost 6 straight behind the veteran. I’ll take a ticket with Tampa Bay. -Brad Diamond (Handicapperspicks.com)

MLB Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays Odds: June 8th 2010

June 8th, 2010

American League East rivals take to the field for the second time in as many weeks starting with an MLB betting affair on Tuesday night, as the Tampa Bay Rays crack skulls with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays may still have the best record in baseball, but the gap between themselves and the rest of the league has been dwindling in recent weeks. Still, Tampa Bay holds two games worth of an advantage over the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays sit 4.5 games back of the hosts in the AL East standings, and are even with the Boston Red Sox for third place in the division.

Toronto Blue Jays (33-25, +$1,225) vs. Tampa Bay Rays (37-20, +$732)
Game Date/Time: Tuesday, June 8th, 7:10 ET
Game Location: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL
TV/Radio Broadcast: Sun Sports, RSN, XM

MLB Odds: Toronto Blue Jays +160 (Brian Tallet – L) vs. Tampa Bay Rays -190 (Jeff Niemann – R) Total: Over/Under 9

For just the fifth time this year, LHP Brian Tallet will get the nod from manager Cito Gaston as the starting pitcher for the Jays. Tallet was fantastic in his last outing against these Rays, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings only to see his bullpen implode. Toronto has lost three straight games in which Tallet has started. Ironically, the southpaw’s only win this year came on the road in one of his worst starts, as he allowed four runs (two earned) in 6.2 innings against the Rangers on April 7th.Even though he has spent some time away from the Blue Jays, Tallet is 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA in 23.1 innings of work in 2010.

The man who was really bailed out that day that Tallet was on the mound last week was none other than RHP Jeff Niemann, who will once again start for the Rays on Tuesday night. Niemann had held all ten of his foes this year to three runs or fewer before getting shelled for five earned against the Jays last week. The long ball is starting to become a big issue for the big right hander. Niemann has conceded four home runs in his L/3 starts, giving him eight for the year. If he kept up at this pace, he would allow seven more homers than he did all of last season. Still, Niemann is undefeated this year at 5-0 with a 2.79 ERA, and his 1.10 WHIP is one of the best in the league. He has been favored in eight straight MLB betting battles for Tampa Bay, winning the L/7. His ‘over’ contest on June 1st snapped a string of six consecutive games without an ‘over’.

MLB Insider Tip: The Blue Jays are just 6-21 in their L/27 MLB betting contests at Tropicana Field.

Tallet totally outpitched Niemann just seven days ago when these two hooked up at Rogers Centre, but the Rays still got the win. Look for Niemann to bounce back as the Rays open this MLB betting series with a ‘W’ on Tuesday.

My MLB Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays (Niemann)
