Eastern Michigan Eagles vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
Game Date/Time: Saturday, September 25th, 3:30 ET
Game Location: Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
TV/Radio Broadcast: ABC, ESPN Mobile TV, Sirius

NCAA Football Odds: Eastern Michigan Eagles (+44) -110 vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (-44) -110: Over/Under 56

You have to go back to 2008 to find the last time that the Eagles won a game, but that doesn’t mean that you should be afraid to bet on football with them. They actually have some respectable ratings this year to fall back on, like the 72nd best rushing attack in the land and the 32nd pass defense in the country as well.

We have to give some credit to Alex Gillett, who has led the Eagles to a pair of covers this year for those that were content to bet on football with them. He has completed 57.6 percent of his passes for 350 yards with four scores against three picks this year, and he has rushed for 172 yards and a TD as well.

Dwayne Priest has made a difference on the ground as well, as he has carried the ball 50 times for 199 yards and three scores on the year.

For Ohio State though, it’s all about the defense and the play of Terrelle Pryor if you plan on using them to bet on football.

The Buckeyes rank ninth in the land in scoring defense at 12.7 points per game, but that number is awfully deceiving. If not for three TDs allowed by special teams, the ‘D’ would only be charged with 17 total points against on the entire season.

However, we know that all eyes are going to be on Pryor. Through the air, the third year man has completed 63.0 percent of his passes for 715 yards with six scores and two picks. On the ground, he leads the team with 165 yards on 36 carries and two more scores.

Keep an eye on both Brandon Saine and Daniel Herron as well. They’ve combined for 63 carries, 295 yards, and five TDs on the year.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: The Eagles are 3-1 ATS in their L/4 road games against BCS conference opponents.

It’s hard to really say anything good about Eastern Michigan if you’re looking to back it, but when push comes to shove, this is a team that is better than it was last year when it was winless. Ohio State has had a history of beating teams like this one down, but not to the point that all that is left is some bloody pulp.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Pittsburgh Panthers Prediction & Odds: September 23rd 2010

Tonight’s ESPN Thursday night college football pick takes us to Heinz Field where a pair of former Big East rivals in the Miami Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Panthers will meet up for the first time since 2003 at Heinz Field.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Pittsburgh Panthers
Game Date/Time: Thursday, September 23rd, 7:30 ET
Game Location: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA
TV/Radio Broadcast: ESPN, XM

NCAA Football Odds: Miami Hurricanes (+3.5) -110 vs. Pittsburgh Panthers (-3.5) -110: Over/Under 49.5

Neither of these clubs has gotten off to the start that fans, boosters, and their betting backers would have liked. The Canes stroll into Pittsburgh 1-1 both SU & ATS on the year, while PITT is yet to cover a spread (0-1-1 ATS) and carries that same 1-1 record. Both clubs come in off their bye weeks.

Last we saw the Hurricanes, they were beaten by the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Horseshoe in a game that had some positives and negatives. On the plus side of the ledger was the play of the special teams that returned a punt and kick-off for TDs. However, the defenses inability to limit Terrelle Pryor either through the air or on the ground, and Jacory Harris’ charitable mindset that saw him throw four INTs simply prohibited the Canes to win let alone cover the points.

The most troublesome aspect of the game was the play of Harris who seems to have regressed since wowing Coral Gables his freshman year. He is yet to step up and become the superstar many thought him to be at the onset of his collegiate career. To date, he’s thrown for 442 yards at 8.19 YPC, but his 4/4 TD:INT ratio leaves cause for concern.

That said; tonight could be his coming out party against an FBS opponent considering the Pittsburgh Panthers defense ranks 94 th overall allowing 254 YPG. The absence of Pitt’s Greg Romeus also makes his job easier being able to perform without being under constant harassment.

Pittsburgh opened up the year with an OT defeat in Salt Lake City against the Utah Utes. While head coach Dave Wannstedt’s squad showed some moxie by battling back from 11 down with just under eight minutes remaining, the Panthers were the beneficiaries of some bone headed play that allowed them to sneak back into the game.

They were flat out dominated by the Utes getting outgained 405-266, but by winning the turnover battle 3-2, it allowed them to almost pull out the victory. The defense allowed Jordan Wynn to throw for nearly 300 yards, while the offense noticeably struggled to run the ball.

NCAA Football Insider Tip : The Miami Hurricanes have dominated the Panthers most recently winning six in a row and 14 of the L/15 overall meetings. PITT’s last win in the series came back in 1997 at home where they won 21-17 as 14.5-point underdogs.

This is clearly the biggest game in Jacory Harris’ career. Once thought to be the man to return the Canes to national prominence, he’s now been labeled as turnover prone and a blowup reminiscent of the one he had in Columbus just leaves fans stating, “same ol’ Jacory!”

Now matched up against what I feel to be a much lesser version of a Panthers outfit with problems on both sides of the ball, I expect to see Miami’s depth and athleticism rule the night.

With a number of teams in the ACC already falling flat on their face, the opportunity is still there for Miami to be the leader of the conference and snag that BCS Bowl bid. For that to happen, Randy Shannon’s outfit must win in tonight’s spot! I believe they rise to the occasion under the national spotlight and do just that making the Canes my college football pick for this Thursday night tussle!

Clemson Tigers vs. Auburn Tigers Pick & Odds: September 18th 2010

Clemson Tigers vs. Auburn Tigers
Game Date/Time: Saturday, September 18th, 7:00 ET
Game Location: Doyt L. Perry Stadium, Bowling Green, OH
TV/Radio Broadcast: ESPN, ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV, Sirius

NCAA Football Odds: Clemson Tigers (+7) -110 vs. Auburn Tigers (-7) -110: Over/Under 54.5

In comparison to last year’s team, there really isn’t a heck of a lot left in purple and orange right now. Clemson is a mess with both Scotty Cooper (left team) and CJ Spiller (graduation) no longer in the fold.

The offense does have respectable numbers this year with 418.5 yards and 46.5 points per game on the board, but this is a team that didn’t look sparkling against either the North Texas Mean Green or the Presbyterian Blue Hose to start the year. If you can’t look amazing against one of the worst FCS teams in the land, you have some real issues.

Kyle Parker eschewing the Colorado Rockies and a baseball career was supposed to be the shot in the arm that Clemson needed to excel. He has done anything but so far, throwing for just 284 yards and four scores in two games. Parker is only completing 57.7 percent of his passes, and no one on the team has triple digits in receiving yards as of yet.

Meanwhile for the other Tigers in this cat fight, Cam Newton is proving to be an excellent investment. The former Florida Gator transferred just at the right time, and he is starting to emerge as a Heisman Trophy candidate and will continue to do so for as long as Auburn is winning.

A 17-14 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs last week wasn’t the greatest game in the world for Newton, but accounting for 206 yards and two TDs in a tightly run contest against an SEC foe on the road is worth noting.

Head coach Gene Chizik might want to work Onterio McCalebb into the offense more. He has touched the pigskin 21 times on offense and 11 on special teams and has already accounted for 416 all purpose yards in just two games.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: Clemson is 2-6 ATS in its L/8 tries against SEC foes.

This Tiger tale is unlikely to be a pretty for one for the visitors. Clemson just doesn’t have enough in the tank to go into hostile road territory and win a game like this. These two teams have never met in the preseason before, but in two bowl games, Auburn holds a 2-0 SU and 1-0-1 ATS advantage.

Look for that mark to get improved by one come Saturday, as Cam Newton leads Auburn to a win against the lines for college football on Saturday.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles Pick & Odds: September 18th 2010

A college football pick rematch from last year’s first ever meeting between the Kansas Jayhawks and Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles is set to air tonight on ESPN at 8:00 ET from Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, MS.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles
Game Date/Time: Friday, September 17th, 8:00 ET
Game Location: Roberts Stadium, Hattiesburg, MS
TV/Radio Broadcast: ESPN, SIRIUS, XM

NCAA Football Odds: Kansas Jayhawks (+5.5) -110 VS. Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (-5.5) -110: Over/Under 51

The Jayhawks got a stiff test in Lawrence from head coach Larry Fedora’s Golden Eagles last season in the programs first ever meeting falling 35-28. The Golden Eagles were only outgained by 38 yards (433-395), and if not for a pair of red zone turnovers, could have pulled the outright shocker.

With the Jayhawks now set to pay a visit to one of CUSA’s more hostile venues, the recipe is ripe for the Golden Eagles to get their revenge. Oddsmakers think they get it done as well installing them nearly TD college football pick favorites after going off the board as 13-point underdogs a year ago.

That said; the Jayhawks enter this battle off an upset of the then top 25 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets whom they toppled with a completely reinvigorated offense with Jordan Webb at the controls.

The redshirt frosh had a big day against the Ramblin Wreck’s defense throwing for 179 yards and three TDs with just one INT in his first career start. Leaps and bounds better than what Kale Pick churned out against North Dakota State in what’s certain to be his final start of the season.

Also adding a boost to KU’s offensive attack was freshman running back James Sims who had a TD and 101 yards on 17 carries; he didn’t suit up the previous week. Webb’s favorite target of the game was cornerback turned wide receiver Daymond Patterson who electrified the Memorial Stadium crowd on a number of his seven receptions for 85 yards and a score.

Though the defense was gouged by the Yellow Jackets option attack led by stud Josh Nesbitt, it buckled down in the second half giving up just eight points to pull the 28-25 outright shocker as double-digit home pups.

Southern Miss flexed its muscles against FCS rep Prairie View A&M, but got rolled up when it went into Columbia, SC and paid a visit to the Gamecocks. Most alarming was the fact that it was gouged on the ground to the tune of 224 yards. It will be interesting to see how this unit holds up against a Jayhawks offense that displayed a balanced attack last week.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: Tonight’s game presents a very interesting challenge for head coach Turner Gill’s young squad. It’s the first road game for many, and with inexperienced players at the QB and RB position, I think it will take a toll on the final outcome of the game. Southern Miss killed itself on a number of occasions in last season’s meeting with Kansas, and that will be an extreme motivating factor for them tonight.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Washington Huskies Pick & Odds: September 18th 2010

Husky Stadium is the sight for one of the more interesting bet on football Week 3 match-ups on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 ET when the 8th Nebraska Cornhuskers invade Seattle to take on Jake Locker and the home dogged Washington Huskies.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Washington Huskies
Game Date/Time: Saturday, September 18th, 3:30 ET
Game Location: Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA
TV/Radio Broadcast: ABC, ESPN Gameplan, Sirius, XM

NCAA Football Odds: Nebraska Cornhuskers (-3) -110 VS. Washington Huskies (+3) -110: Over/Under 53

It’s been all fun and games for the Huskers to this point of the season as they enter this crucial spot 2-0 SU after pasting a pair of patsies to open up their 2010-11 campaign. By racking up an average of 43.5 PPG against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and Idaho Vandals, the offense ranks third in the country in points scored.

That said; they failed to cover both closing pointspreads and the stats accumulated were earned against much lesser competition than they’ll face this afternoon.

Taylor Martinez has been all the raved in Lincoln as the frosh field general looks to be the solid QB Big Red wishes it sported a year ago. The kid can flat out fly evidenced by his 284 yards rushing on 13.5 YPC with five TDs.

Still, the backbone of head coach Bo Pelini’s outfit comes in the way of the Blackshirt defense that comes into this contest allowing just 13.5 PPG. It’s already dropped opposing QBs eight times in two games and has forced eight turnovers.

On the flipside, the Washington O-Line has allowed team captain quarterback Jake locker to only get sacked once, and the offense has turned the ball over a grand total of one time. If Nebraska’s stop unit continues to excel in both of those departments in this spot, Jared Crick and company might be even better than last year’s unit that allowed an average of just 272 yards of total defense and 10.4 PPG.

U-Dub got off to a slow bet on football start in their season opener at BYU letting the game get away from them in the second half, but they bounced back nicely and covered a hefty 13.5-points in a 41-20 home win and cover over the Syracuse Orange last week.

In its own house, Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff has already played LSU close, beaten USC, Arizona, and Cal to make Husky Stadium once again a place where opponents just can’t waltz into and win.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: The Huskers have played to the ‘under’ in 12 of their L/17 overall, and played to the low side of the number 14 of the L/23 times they partook in a game with the spread in the +3 to -3 range.

Nebraska allowed only one of its opponents to score 20 points in its five road games last season, and I’m expecting its defense to set the tone in this one from the opening kick.

It should take some time for Martinez to get his feet wet in this spot before finally getting used to the chaotic atmosphere in Seattle. He by no means will go off the way he’s done to date away from Lincoln. If he does, my hat goes off to him.
