Like it or not, the Chargers are really going to be going into the regular season without the services of Vincent Jackson, one of the top receivers in the NFL. Even if by some major miracle Jackson does report to camp before Monday night, he is going to be facing a three game suspension regardless and will not be available.

Expect to see Philip Rivers using a lot of Malcolm Floyd, Legedu Naanee and his version of Old Reliable, Antonio Gates, especially in crucial situations.

The running game is going to be interesting this week, as this could be the start of a fantastic career for Ryan Mathews, the team’s first round draft choice out of Fresno State. Many are already giving football betting advice that hints that Mathews will be the Offensive Rookie of the Year this season, and if he gets enough action, that is most likely to be the case.

For the Chiefs, this year is all about achieving respectability. Kansas City has really struggled a ton in recent years, and there are just a lot of players that need a ton of work in order to turn this franchise around.

Matt Cassel absolutely has to do better than the virtually even TD/INT ratio that he posted last season. He doesn’t have the weapons at his disposal at wide receiver that most other QBs in this division and conference do, which will really set his growth back.

Defensively, it’s all about rookie Eric Berry this year. The team’s first round draft choice is expected to come in and immediately help transform a terrible defense into a respectable one just by being on the field.

NFL Insider Tip: The ‘over’ has gone 10-1 in San Diego’s L/11 games played in the month of September and is 15-5-2 in Kansas City’s L/22 home games.

So why not think this will be a higher scoring game? Charlie Weis is going to want to get his offense off on a high note this year, especially after a relatively dismal preseason. We know that the Chargers can do a ton of damage, even without Jackson in the lineup.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (+700) – Brees makes the most sense to become the league’s MVP this year due to the fact that he is going to be called upon the most to lead his team to the playoffs. There really is no doubt that the Saints are going to the second season, which is usually a prerequisite for winning this award. In spite of the fact that names like Brady and Manning are still at the tops of their games, we tend to believe that Brees might be the best thing going right now. Is 5,000 passing yards out of the equation? We aren’t ones to doubt the defending champs.

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys (+1200) – Romo has a new weapon at his disposal this year with WR Dez Bryant in the fold, and that could be just the kick he needs to become a legitimate MVP selection. Romo knows he can throw for 5,000 yards if need be, and with this type of an offense, OC Jason Garrett will be perfectly content to let him throw the ball 40-45 times if need be for the Cowboys to triumph. If Dallas wins the NFC East this year, it is going to be on Romo’s right arm; He’s a great MVP selection at these nfl betting odds!

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens (+1800) – Flacco is a bit of a longshot, particularly for as much as RBs Ray Rice and Willis McGahee run the ball, but with WR Anquan Boldin now in his arsenal of weapons, Flacco has no excuse not to bring the purple and black back to the playoffs in 2010. Baltimore has a very manageable schedule as well, and getting to the playoffs will almost certainly yield at least one MVP candidate. Flacco seems like the most logical choice with both the rushing game and receiving duties being split relatively evenly.

He can totally change the face of this offense, which has been simply miserable in years past. The defense has a new captain as well, as rookie LB Rolando McLain could be the Defensive Rookie of the Year. The silver and black might be a year away from being back, but to challenge the .500 mark is a distinct possibility.

Denver Broncos (+650 odds) – HC Josh McDaniels put his career on the line when he traded up into the middle of the first round to pick Florida Gators QB Tim Tebow to be his future quarterback. QB Kyle Orton wasn’t terrible last season in spite of the fact that there weren’t many expectations, but he will be crippled this year after the rift between McDaniels and WR Brandon Marshall finally sent the wide out to MiamiLast season’s collapse from 6-0 to miss the playoffs was embarrassing to say the least, and it’s hard to think that this year will be anything different. McDaniels could be on his way out after a second bad season.

Kansas City Chiefs (+700 odds) – With DC Romeo Crennel now in the fold, many think the Chiefs could be a big difference maker this season. However, we tend to disagree. Having SS Eric Berry to work with is going to be great in KC, but he is still only one of 11 players on that defense. There aren’t enough pieces to the puzzle for this unit to be much improved. The addition of RB Thomas Jones as a free agent from the New York Jets is going to be a great pick up, but the problem at hand is that it may stunt the growth of RB Jamaal Charles, who led all rushers in the second half of the season in terms of yardage.
