The Kings travel to Indiana for a meeting against the host Pacers on Friday night. This will be the Kings fourth road game in the last six days. No real reason to worry some put too much emphasis on this particular situation even I have used it before but you should look at it on a case-by-case basis. Sacramento is 12-1 ATS (+10.9 Units) in road games against Central division opponents over the last 3 seasons. They are also 21-11 ATS (+8.9 Units) revenging a same season loss this season. Indiana went into Sacramento back on November 30 as a four-point road favorite and came away with a 107 to 98 victory. Our Play ON team qualifies in several key technical situations we found researching our powerful NBA database for tonight’s game. When the Kings are coming off a SU win as an underdog and are now playing in the current price range they are a blistering 18-2-2 ATS. If you put them on the highway in that same situation we find they are perfect at 10-0-1 ATS. Install them, as underdogs in the original situation the Kings are 11-1-1 ATS but make them a road underdog and they are perfect with an 8-0-1 ATS mark. If Sacramento is coming off a road spread win as an underdog and now play in the current price range they are 21-3-5 ATS their last 29 times to post. This is the third straight road game for Washington, a long way from home, and they are 1-33 on the road! The Wizards are 8-22 ATS in their last 30 road games and 17-35 ATS in their last 52 games overall. While the Knicks are stumbling with Carmelo Anthony, Denver is thriving with a new faces, a young athletic team. The Nuggets are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 home games and 22-8 ATS in their last 30 games overall. They returned home from an impressive 4-game road trip (4-0 ATS), which included close losses at Miami (85-82) and Orlando (103-98) by blowing out Toronto, 123-90. Nene had 18 points and seven rebounds, and J.R. Smith had a near triple-double: 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Then the Spurs came to town and the Nuggets have had a day to rest after a thrilling come from behind 115-112 victory. The Nuggets are 11-4 since the Carmelo Anthony trade. Prediction: Portland Trailblazers +1.5
Dwight Howard will serve his 1-game suspension tonight when the Orlando Magic host the Portland Trail Blazers. NBA rules mandate an automatic one-game suspension when a player accumulates 16 technical fouls in a season. The Blazers are very strong inside with LaMarcus Aldridge, Marcus Camby and Gerald Wallace. Portland will dominate the paint tonight and will have a huge rebounding edge which will lead to a nice road victory for them. Orlando lost at Portland 97-83 on Dec. 9 despite 39 points and 15 rebounds from Howard. The rest of the Magic scored 44 points and shot 17 of 51 (33.3 percent). The Blazers are finally getting healthy with Brandon Roy and Camby recently returning to the line-up. They put together one of their most complete performances of the season with a 93-69 home victory over the Charlotte Bobcats last time out. This will only be Portland’s 2nd game in 5 days so they will be fresh and ready to go. The Trail Blazers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. While your initial thought might be to load up on the Knicks at home, this is a very tired New York team. Tonight’s game will be their fifth in the last seven days, and that really takes a toll on teams this late in the season. Utah on the other hand will have some fresh legs, as they get ready to play just their third game in the same time span. New York has also failed to win back to back games since they acquired Carmelo Anthony, and just won at Atlanta yesterday. Prediction: Charlotte Bobcats +1.5
The Bobcats are expected to be without Stephen Jackson, but the Clippers are expected to be without Eric Gordon. The loss of Gordon is a serious matter, considering the Clippers are only 4-16 without him. His loss is compounded by the fact that L.A. is playing this one on the road, where it is just 5-25 on the season. Charlotte has lost 4 straight, but all of those defeats came of the road. The Bobcats have been much better on their home floor, where they have won 3 straight and 4 of their last 5. 2 of the victories in this stretch have come against Boston and the L.A. Lakers. The Bobcats’ last defeat was a brutal 93-69 loss at Portland. History tells us it is a great idea to get behind the Bobcats after such a poor offensive performance. In fact, they are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games after scoring less than 75 points in their previous game. The Clippers are a disappointing 16-42 ATS in their last 58 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a road favorite. The Kings have been playing in a lot of high scoring games lately and for that reason this totals line has been inflated a bit higher than it should be. Their last three games were against Washington, Toronto and Denver, however, and tonight they face one of the best defensive squads in the NBA. The Kings are not only coming in on a back-to-back, but they played a major high-scoring game last night that went to overtime in Washington. This will be their third game in four nights. We just don’t see how they are going to have any offensive success tonight against this Boston D. This is a team that isn’t a great scoring squad and Boston allows only 93 PPG on defense at home. Pick: Phoenix Suns -5.5
After getting brutally embarrassed last night, expect the Suns to bounce back strong against a team they have owned. Dating back to 1996, the Suns are 12-1 SU and 10-2-1 ATS when playing at home against the Nets, winning those games by an average score of 103 to 90. The Nets are just 3-17 on the road this season, where they are losing by 8.5 ppg. They have lost their last 5 away from home by an average of 15.8 points. It is also worth noting that the Nets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5 points. While Phoenix has not been playing good basketball since early December, it has responded well to embarrassing defeats. Following a 15-point loss to Dallas (12/17), the Suns bounced back to beat Oklahoma City in their next game. Following a 123-110 loss to Philly (12/29), Phoenix responded with a 92-75 win over Detroit in its next game.
