Pick: Chicago Cubs -157
I’m recommending a play on the Cubs on Friday. The Chicago Cubs have won six of Matt Garza’s last eight starts and the righty has pitched quite well. He’s allowed just 14 earned runs in those eight outings, to go along with 53 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings. That’s a smoking, 2.46 ERA with a 9.30 Ks/9 IP mark. Garza owns a sub-3.00 ERA in 12 daytime starts this season and he’s had little trouble with the Houston Astros in three outings. But despite posting strong numbers against Houston, he’s yet to pick up a win against them. I believe he’ll do so today against an Astro team that’s won just 17 of their last 59 road games. Houston is also on a 12-26 slide when Wandy Rodriguez toes the road rubber. The lefty is 0-2 against the North Siders this season with an ERA above 5.00. And he’s not been nearly as effective in daytime action as he has been when the sun goes down. The Cubs are on a 5-1 run against starting pitchers with a WHIP above 1.30 and I expect another win, behind Garza, in this one. I’m laying the price with Chicago on Friday afternoon. Thanks! GL! Scott Spreitzer

Pick: San Diego Padres -113
On Friday the Free play is on the San Diego Padres. Game 914 at 10:05 eastern. The Padres fIt a solid 19-1 system that plays on home teams that are off a road loss and had 4 or less hits and no more than 1 error, vs an opponent off a road dog loss and scored 2 or less runs , also with 1 or less error. We don’t play games based just on a system. Arizona does have some angles on their side in this one. However the system is strong enough to at the very least make the Padres a free play. The Pitching also favors the Padres as they have Stauffer going tonight. Stauffer has a fine 2.76 home era and went 6+ shut out innings in his only home start vs Arizona. Miley makes the start for Arizona and he has a 4.80 era over his last 3 start and allowed 5 runs in 5 innings vs San Diego earlier in the season. The Padres have a better home bullpen era than Arizona has on the road as well. SO we will back the Padres. On Friday I have the 15-1 College Football Power System Side and the AL Game of the Month from a 90% Power System and out ream has Several strong angles backing them. College Football cashed with LSU last night and was 24 games over. 500 last season. Jump on and start what I expect to be a solid weekend of High end system winners on the right sides. For the Free play take The Padres. -Rob Vinciletti (Handicapperspicks.com)

Pick: New York Mets -145
The Mets have the edge on the mound with Gee, who’s 6-3 with an ERA of 3.31 at home this season. The Mets are 5-1 in Gee’s last 6 home starts vs. a team with a losing record and 11-4 in his last 15 starts overall vs. a team with a losing record. Also, he’s 3-0 lifetime with an ERA of 3.08 in 4 starts against the Nats. Washington’s Wang has been struggling. The Nats are 0-3 in his last 3 starts, during which he posted an ERA of 4.58. Plus, he’s 0-3 with a 5.75 ERA in 4 starts against the NL East. We’ll bet the Mets. -Dave Price

Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -129
The D-backs are on fire. They’ve won 17 of their last 20, and I expect them to keep rolling with Cy Young candidate Ian Kennedy on the hill. Kennedy is 19-4 (22-8 on the ML) with an ERA of 2.90 this season. He’s 9-0 (12-1 on the ML) with an ERA of 1.87 against division opponents, winning all 3 of his starts against the Dodgers this year. The D-backs have won each of his last 4 and 11 of his last 12 starts. Chad Billingsley is a quality starter, but he’s struggled against division foes to the tune of 4-7 (5-8 on the ML) with an ERA or 4.94. Also, the Dodgers are 0-6 in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning record and 1-5 in their last 6 home games in this series. Take Arizona. -Jimmy Boyd

Pick: San Diego Padres +146
San Francisco has folded in September, unlike a year ago, with a weak offense, 30th in runs scored and 29th in on base percentage. They are favored here with Matt Cain, though the team is 3-7 his last 10 starts. He is 0-2 against the Padres this season (5-11 all time) and has been a bit wild his last 2 starts, walking 7 in 15 innings. That offense faces Cory Luebke (3.28 ERA), who has a terrific 131-37 strikeout to walk ratio in only 120 innings. The Padres are 4-1 in Luebke’s last 5 starts with 4 days of rest. And the Giants are 3-7 in their last 10 games vs. a left-handed starter. Play the Padres. -Jim Feist (Handicapperspicks.com)

MLB Pick: Oakland Athletics -120
The Oakland A’s are showing excellent value today as a marginal home favorite against the Toronto Blue Jays. Jose Bautista’s absence from the Toronto Blue Jays lineup could be a brief one. It’s not immediately known if the same can be said for Adam Lind. Toronto (64-62) scratched Bautista, the major leagues’ home run leader, with tightness in his neck just minutes before Saturday’s 5-1 loss. Lind, batting cleanup, was hit by a pitch near the right wrist in the first inning and came out of the game for pinch-hitter Mark Teahen in the third. Both Lind and Bautista are likely to be out of the line-up today. The A’s will go with Guillermo Moscoso (6-6, 3.48 ERA) as he tries to win his third straight start. Moscoso is 4-1 with a 3.15 ERA in seven home starts this year. The A’s have won four of their last five coming in. Moscoso is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 0.833 WHIP in his lone career starts against Toronto. He allowed just one earned run and five base runners in six innings to get the win in a 10-3 victory at Toronto on 8/11/2011. Take the A’s on the Money Line. -Black Widow

MLB Pick: San Diego Padres -131
San Diego has had Florida’s number. The Padres are a perfect 6-0 against the Marlins this season and these wins have come by an average of 5.5 runs. Looking back, the Padres have won 12 of the last 14 meetings, including 4 in a row at home in the series. Marlins are just 5-16 in their last 21 overall, and they are 0-3 in Sanchez’s 3 career starts against the Padres. The Marlins have lost 3 of his last 4 starts overall. San Diego, meanwhile, has won each of Luebke’s last 3 starts, during which he has posted an ERA of 2.00. We’ll take the Padres.

MLB Pick: Los Angeles Angels -146
The Angels Williams will be making his first start of the season on Sunday, and this is a tough spot for the Angels starter as every game is critically important to his club from this point on if they want to keep up with the Rangers in the AL West. Matusz has been getting shelled lately as the Orioles starter is 0-3 in his last three outings with an incredibly high ERA of 12.27 in those starts. Matusz is lasting an average of five innings, and giving up an average of 6.7 runs per outing over his last three starts. TAKE THE ANGELS MINUS -Bob Wingerter (Handicapperspicks.com)

Pick: Cardinals vs. Marlins Under 8.5
Yesterday’s series opener finished above the total. However, I feel this one has an excellent shot at being lower-scoring. Sanchez hasn’t had any victories in some time. He’s still 3-1 with a solid 3.50 ERA and 1.139 WHIP in 11 home starts though. Two of his last three starts have fallen below the total. Westbrook has been tough lately. He’s got a 3.15 ERA and 0.95 WHIP his last three starts, averaging 6 2/3 innings. Two of those three games stayed below the total and the other could have easily done so too. Westbrook has a 2.95 ERA and 0.891 WHIP his three starts vs. Florida. Likewise, Sanchez has a 2.95 ERA in three starts vs. St. Louis. Consider the Under 8.5 runs. -Ben Burns

Pick: San Diego Padres +128
San Diego is close to a .500 road team and the Padres are 6-1 in Aaron Harang’s last 7 road starts. The veteran righty (9-3) has been a very good pickup and faces a Pittsburgh offense that is 26th in runs, OBP and slugging. The Pirates go with righty Jeff Karstens, a guy who has had troubles against the Padres, with an 0-3 record and a 5.89 ERA against them. That includes one start this season where he struggled against them (6.75 ERA). And the Pirates are 5-13 in Karstens’ last 18 starts with 4 days of rest. Play the Padres. -Jim Feist

Pick: Atlanta Braves -122
We’ll fade the Mets with Dickey on the mound tonight as he’s just 1-6 with an ERA of 4.24 in 11 home starts this year. Atlanta’s Hudson enters in top form. He’s gone 10-straight starts without giving up more than 3 earned runs. The Braves are a phenomenal 11-4 in their last 15 games as a favorite of -110 to -150 and 18-8 in Hudson’s last 26 starts as a favorite of -110 to -150. The Mets have lost 4 in a row and are just 7-17 in their last 24 home games versus a team with a winning record. We’ll bet the Braves tonight. -Jimmy Boyd (Handicapperspicks.com)

MLB Pick: Cincinnati Reds -131
The three game sweep of San Francisco will go for naught if the Reds don’t continue to win especially against a struggling Houston squad. Cincinnati received an all around solid performance Tuesday in a 5-1 victory with Homer Bailey turning in a great effort on the mound giving up the one run in eight innings on five hits. Unlike Monday when the offense squandered numerous scoring opportunities the Reds scored five runs in the fifth inning with a grand slam off the bat of Edgar Renteria the big blow. The Reds pulled to within two games of the .500 mark but if this team expects to be a factor in the National League Central race they need to duplicate Tuesday’s performance more often where both the bats and arms hold up their end of the bargain. The pitching side of things will fall to left hander Dontrelle Willis who will be making his fifth start of 2011. He has yet to win a game but comes in off of a pair of good starts that saw him give up five runs in 12.1 innings. If Willis can turn in those type of performances going forward the Reds playoff push will be much easier. TAKE CINCINNATI MINUS -Bob Wingerter

MLB Pick: San Diego Padres -118
10* Play on San Diego at 10:05 ET. The Dodgers sure seem to have the Padres number. They have beaten them five straight times, including three shutouts, one of them coming last night, 1-0. Interestingly, all three shutouts were 1-0 finals, so its not like LA is hitting well vs. San Diego pitching either. The Padres Tim Stauffer has a 2.88 ERA in 11 home starts this year. The Dodgers Ted Lilly has a 6.48 ERA his last three starts overall. 10* on San Diego (w/ Stauffer). -Tom Freese

MLB Pick: Milwaukee Brewers +100
Surprisingly Milwaukee is the better team so far this year as St Louis comes in with a 58-52 overall record and Milwaukee is now 61-50 overall on the season. Milwaukee is now 40-15 at home this year. Milwaukee is 21-6 this year at home when the total is 8 to 8 1/2. Milwaukee is 7-1 their last 8 games. Milwaukee bullpen has a 3.31 ERA at home this year. Randy Wolf has a 3.17 ERA at home this year and a 2.21 ERA his last 3 starts. We’ll recommend a small play on Milwaukee today! Thanks and good luck, Rocky Atkinson

MLB Pick: Kansas City Royals -119
The Royals have quietly won each of Hochevar’s last 6 starts, and he has really sizzled in the last 3 with an ERA 3.26. The Orioles, meanwhile, are just 3-7 in Guthrie’s road starts this season and 0-5 in his last 5 road starts as an underdog of +110 to +150. Baltimore took Game 1, but it is 0-5 in its last 5 games following a win and 2-12 in its last 14 in the 2nd game of a series. Take the Royals. -Jeff Alexander (Handicapperspicks.com)
